The Car Service line of business insures non-medallion licensed livery vehicles for the individual owner/driver who owns and operates their vehicle within the confines of New York City. The car service business segment provides insurance coverage to both radio-based community cars and green taxis.
Community cars are private passenger vehicles that provide pre-arranged transportation throughout the five boroughs of New York City. A community car must be associated with a radio base authorized by the New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission. It is through these authorized radio bases that community cars are able to arrange their fares.
Introduced in 2013, the green taxi is intended to serve street-hail customers outside the heavily trafficked areas of Manhattan. Green taxis are underwritten in two of American Transit’s lines of business: car service, if the insured is an owner/operator of the vehicle, or CAP livery, if the insured is a corporation.
